How can we help?
Hindsight is a private, local-first work timeline for macOS. You can track your day manually with no setup at all, or turn on optional automatic tracking with your own choice of AI provider — either way, your activity data stays on your Mac, unless you turn on Sync to iCloud, which keeps a copy in your own private iCloud. This page explains how to get help, report a problem, or ask for a feature.
For support requests, bug reports, or feature requests, write to us. We aim to respond within 2 business days.

Common questions
Hindsight isn't capturing anything.
Check the menu bar: if it offers Start Tracking, tracking is off. If it is on, open Settings → AI Engine and make sure your Vision Engine can run; Settings says why when it can't. See Screen Recording permission if you granted it and nothing changed.
Activities say “Unclear activity” or analysis failed.
Your vision endpoint probably isn't reachable, or the model can't read images. Use Test Connection in Settings → AI Engine, and pick a vision-capable model. See Use Ollama or LM Studio.
A project is missing or wrong.
Time goes to a project only when the screen proves it. Declare the project, or edit its rules, on the Projects screen. See Projects.
How do I remove everything?
Use Delete All Data… in Settings → General. If you used iCloud sync, also delete the iCloud copy in your Apple Account's iCloud storage settings. See Back up, export and delete.
Before you contact us
Most issues can be resolved by checking the following first:
- If you're using automatic tracking: confirm Screen Recording permission is granted to Hindsight in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording. This permission is entirely optional — you can also track manually with no permissions at all.
- Confirm the Vision Engine in Settings → AI Engine can run (only needed for automatic tracking): a vision-capable endpoint is configured, or Apple's on-device analysis is available on your Mac. If it can't, Settings says why.
- Try Pause and Resume tracking, or quit and relaunch Hindsight.
- Check Settings → General for screenshot/video retention period and storage quota. You can export activities, or journals saved before 1.3, for any date range from the Activity menu or Settings, export a week as a PDF review or a CSV of its activities from Weekly Review → Export, back up and restore your data in Settings → Data & Backups, or use Delete All Data in Settings → General to permanently remove everything at once.
- If you use Sync to iCloud (Settings → General → iCloud Sync, off by default): read the status line under the toggle. "Not signed in to iCloud" means your Mac needs to be signed in to iCloud in System Settings → Apple Account; "iCloud storage is full" means you need to free up or add iCloud storage. If sync stopped because Hindsight's iCloud data was deleted, use Re-upload everything to start again. Sync runs in the background, so changes can take a few minutes to reach your other devices. Only the text of activities, projects, standups, journals, weekly reviews and your categories syncs — screenshots, screen text and videos always stay on the Mac that captured them.
What we can help with
- Tracking accuracy issues (missing, duplicate, or incorrect activities).
- Permission, onboarding, or setup problems.
- Daily, standup, Weekly Review, and export (CSV, JSON, PDF) issues.
- iCloud sync problems, such as activities or standups not appearing on another device.
- Questions about how your data is stored, used, or deleted.
- Bug reports and feature requests.
What we cannot help with
Hindsight does not host an account system or cloud service. Sync to iCloud stores your synced data in your own private iCloud database, end-to-end encrypted and held by Apple; the developer has no access to it and cannot read, recover or delete it for you. Problems with your Apple Account or iCloud storage are handled by Apple Support. We cannot recover local activity data that has been deleted from your Mac (restore it from a backup in Settings → Data & Backups if you made one), and we cannot access data you have not chosen to share with us. Turning sync off or using Delete All Data does not remove the copy in iCloud; delete it in your Apple Account's iCloud storage settings (Manage Storage → Hindsight). If you configured your own AI provider, issues with that provider's service are handled by that provider directly.
