Screen Recording permission

Screen Recording is the only permission automatic tracking needs. It is optional: manual tracking works without it.

Grant it

  1. Start automatic tracking, or choose it during setup. macOS asks for permission.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.
  3. Turn Hindsight on.
  4. Quit Hindsight and open it again.

Granted it, but nothing is captured?

macOS sometimes applies a permission change only after the app is fully quit and reopened. If Hindsight is listed as allowed and still isn't capturing, turn it off and back on in System Settings, then relaunch Hindsight.

If tracking can't start for another reason, such as no Vision Engine that can run, Settings and the menu bar say why.

Why not Accessibility?

Hindsight is sandboxed, and a sandboxed app can't read other apps' windows through Accessibility. Window titles come from macOS with each capture instead, under the Screen Recording grant.

You can revoke Screen Recording at any time in System Settings. Hindsight keeps working with manual tracking.
