Focus Timer, goals and limits

Focus sessions and daily goals use the same categories as your timeline, so they know what you are actually doing.

Start a focus session

Choose Start Focus Session from the menu bar. Sessions are 25 minutes by default, followed by a break; set the focus, break and long-break lengths in Settings → General under Focus Timer.

With Alert on distracting apps on, Hindsight notifies you the moment a session drifts into a distracting app or category.

Choose what counts as distracting

In Settings → Categories, mark categories under Distracting Categories. The Focus Timer's alerts and the Weekly Review's Top Distractions both use this list.

Daily goals and limits

  1. Open Settings → Categories.
  2. For any category, set a Daily goal (at least) or a Daily limit (at most).
  3. Make sure Daily goals & limits is on under Notifications in Settings → General.

Progress shows on Today and in the menu bar. Hindsight notifies you once a day when you reach a goal or go over a limit. Idle time never counts.

Categories

The default categories are Development, Research, Communication, Design, Writing, Meetings, Reading and Other. Add, rename or recolor them, and match apps to them under App → Category Mapping.
