What Hindsight captures and skips
Hindsight records only what it needs to build your timeline, and skips anything that looks like a secret.
Never captured
- Known password managers and authenticator apps.
- Private browsing windows.
- Any browser while a password field is focused, such as Safari, Chrome, Brave, Arc, Edge or Firefox. The time still counts toward what you were doing.
- Apps you exclude yourself.
Exclude more apps
Open Settings → General and add apps under Privacy & Excluded Apps.
How long screenshots are kept
Under Storage & Retention in Settings → General, set how long screenshots and activity videos are kept (7 days by default) and a storage quota. Settings shows how much an hour of tracking takes on your Mac, and you can lower screenshot resolution and frequency under Recording.
Where it goes
Everything stays on your Mac, inside Hindsight's sandboxed container. There is no account and no server, and nothing is sent to the developer. Screen content leaves your Mac only if you choose a cloud AI provider, and then it goes straight to that provider with your own API key. The privacy policy has the details.
Screenshots can contain whatever is on screen. Pause tracking from the menu bar before showing something you don't want recorded.
